A Sugpaiq (Alutiiq) woman seeks her place in her people’s history by confronting the destruction and shame of colonialism in Alaska’s Kodiak Island. Dying of breast cancer, Isabella is determined to reclaim her heritage by making the difficult journey to Refuge Rock, the site of the massacre that spelled the beginning of Russian rule over the Sugpiaq people.
